The Problem

Despite an exciting technology and scalable business model, Clairity faced a hurdle familiar to many CDR suppliers: how to stand out in a fast-growing carbon removal market — and build trust with buyers from day one.

The Solution

Clairity partnered with Carbonfuture to integrate independent, digital MRV into their operations from the start. This early integration ensures that their technology is set up to scale with the quality and transparency buyers demand — while benefiting from Carbonfuture’s market expertise, supplier services, and trusted buyer network.

Glen Meyerowitz didn’t plan to work in climate tech. The founder and CEO of Clairity Technology had originally set his sights off-world, working as a test engineer for SpaceX. But he had always been fascinated by climate technology, and in 2021, he pivoted to tackle what he saw as his most urgent engineering challenge: mitigating climate change and achieving real climate impact through durable carbon removal.

“We asked ourselves, what has the potential to scale to climate relevance?” said Meyerowitz. “Ultimately, Direct Air Capture (DAC) stood out: not because it was easy, but because it was scalable, quantifiable and measurable.”

But what about Clairity sets them apart from other DAC startups?

From Baking Soda to CO₂ Capture

Clairity’s proprietary technology uses low-cost alkali carbonate salts — part of the same chemical family as baking soda — to capture CO₂. The process operates at low temperatures, requires no rare materials, and is ideally suited to hot, dry climates. Additionally, the process generates clean water — a massive benefit for arid regions like Southern Nevada.

The system is also fully integrated: carbon capture and storage happen on-site, with captured carbon permanently mineralized into carbonated materials, such as industrial waste streams. With a process requiring only common materials and oven-level heat to operate, Clairity believes their approach to DAC is easier and cheaper to scale over the long term — and they are setting out to prove it today.

Project Juniper: Building for Scale and Impact

As of April 2025, Clairity is testing its first DAC and ex-situ mineralization system, Project Juniper, just north of Las Vegas. The location wasn’t just chosen for the climate (or the nearby entertainment options).

“Southern Nevada has been incredibly welcoming to us,” Meyerowitz said. “We have been exploring water-positive applications with the Southern Nevada Water Authority, and NV Energy has been a great partner for us to get clean power to our systems, as they already provide clean energy to local data centers, casinos, and even the Las Vegas Raiders.”

The benefit of generating fresh water in a water-strapped city is a huge boon to Project Juniper, a pilot that can capture 100 metric tons of CO₂ per year. It’s a modest number on its own, but a crucial step forward. Clairity’s modular process is part of a roadmap to advance the technology to megatonne-scale by the early 2030s.

“It’s hard to cut through the noise and demonstrate value to buyers. That was one of the things that was most exciting about the opportunity to work with the Carbonfuture team — we can put meaning behind the word ‘trust’ by showing operational data on Carbonfuture’s independent dMRV system. It gives us the chance to differentiate ourselves in the market and connect with buyers.”

How to Stand Out in an Emerging Market: Carbonfuture MRV+

While Clairity’s technology is innovative, navigating the voluntary carbon market presents its own set of hurdles. The DAC space is crowded and full of big ideas. Standing out is a big challenge for a cash-strapped startup that has to focus its energy and resources to improve and scale an emerging technology. That’s why Meyerowitz and Clairity chose to partner with Carbonfuture from project inception.

“The biggest challenge is finding a way to differentiate ourselves,” said Meyerowitz. “Carbonfuture brings years of expertise, a rigorous dMRV system, and connections to a trusted network of buyers. That’s invaluable to us as an early-stage startup.”

By integrating Carbonfuture MRV+ into their operations from the start, Clairity ensures every tonne of CO₂ removed is tracked, and independently verified and certified — giving buyers the confidence they need.

Carbonfuture also supported with in-depth due diligence, helping Clairity strengthen their business plan and prepare for certification. The insights gathered will help accelerate future project development and position Project Juniper for market success.

The Road Ahead

Clairity is accelerating its momentum with an ambitious roadmap for Project Juniper. With every step supported with the robustness of Carbonfuture MRV+, Clairity is embracing a dynamic “learn by deploying” approach. They are utilizing this pilot not only to prove the unique viability and modularity of their breakthrough technology, but also to harness real-world insights that will drive down costs and optimize performance.

This proactive strategy is daring, ambitious and methodical — designed to catapult Clairity to the forefront of American direct air capture innovation. And by partnering with Carbonfuture, Clairity will have the credibility and market access to scale its vision: 10 megatonnes of durable carbon removal with real climate and community benefits.

“Carbon removal is a trillion-dollar market opportunity to solve the biggest problem humanity has ever faced,” said Meyerowitz. “If we can bring rigor to it — together — we can build something that actually has real impact.”
