Built specifically for carbon dioxide removal (CDR) by Carbonfuture, with input from Microsoft, SIX, and The Economist Group. Now in live pilot for CDR portfolio managers of every size.
NEW YORK – September 22, 2026 – Today, at Climate Week NYC, Carbonfuture announced the launch of a CDR Portfolio Manager tool designed to help carbon removal buyers manage deliveries, monitor supplier performance, track credit custody, and streamline reporting across their portfolios. The Portfolio Manager gives buyers a single source of truth from contracting through retirement, reducing manual processes and improving visibility into delivery and portfolio risk.
The MVP incorporated operational feedback from Microsoft, SIX, and The Economist Group, which helped shape the product’s core features. It is currently being piloted with an initial cohort of CDR portfolio managers.
The launch comes as demand for high-quality carbon removal continues to grow, while buyers with existing portfolios, including future procurement, face increasing pressure to know whether what they've contracted will actually deliver, and what their exposure is if it doesn't. As carbon removal portfolios expand across multiple suppliers, technologies, and delivery schedules, organizations need systems capable of managing delivery, custody, and reporting with the same rigor applied to other enterprise assets.
Every organization managing a CDR portfolio faces the same daily reality: fragmented data, manual tracking, and no consolidated view of what’s contracted, what’s delivering, and what’s at risk. Delivery forecasts live in spreadsheets. Reporting is rebuilt from scratch and is prone to system and human error.
Existing carbon procurement platforms were built for the broader voluntary carbon market where CDR is one instrument category among many. They can track what was purchased and when. What they cannot do is tell you whether your biochar credit delivery is on schedule, whether your BECCS supplier is hitting production milestones, or whether the credits sitting in your registry account are unencumbered and audit-ready. That requires infrastructure that goes deeper than procurement, all the way into custody, supply-chain verification, and credit governance.
CDR portfolio management isn’t just an operational problem. It’s a credibility problem. Every delivery report, every retirement record, every forecast shared with a board or auditor carries the implicit question: can we stand behind this? The answer depends entirely on whether the underlying data, methodology, and infrastructure are sound.
Carbonfuture’s Portfolio Manager is built on a full custody and settlement layer. Credits tracked in the Portfolio Manager are credits held in custody, with the governance, substitution mechanics, and audit trail needed to hold up under scrutiny.
Carbonfuture brings the infrastructure credibility: registry operations, credit custody, supply-chain monitoring, reporting, and verification support, and settlement infrastructure already relied upon across the CDR market. With SIX Group, one of Europe’s foremost financial market infrastructure providers, as a strategic investor and partner, Carbonfuture is uniquely positioned to bring financial-grade rigor to carbon markets. Microsoft brings the buyer credibility: a procurement team that has contracted more than 70 million tonnes of CDR, more than any other buyer in the market.
“The CDR market needs infrastructure it can trust: data it can show to auditors, forecasts it can take to a board, and a record it can stand behind. That’s what we’ve built, and it’s what Microsoft, The Economist Group, and others helped us pressure-test.”, Hannes Junginger-Gestrich, CEO of Carbonfuture
Looking ahead, we're collaborating with Microsoft’s data and AI teams in the next phase of the Portfolio Manager. Building on the operational foundation we're shipping now, upcoming releases will bring advanced analytics capabilities, giving users deeper visibility into portfolio performance, risk, and forecasting.
The platform is live and in pilot with an initial cohort of CDR portfolio managers. The Carbonfuture team will be demoing it throughout Climate Week NYC. Reach out at carbonfuture.earth/buyers/contact to join the pilot.
